What ChatGPT Finances Is

In September 2026, OpenAI began rolling out ChatGPT Finances to its Pro subscribers: you connect your bank, card, and investment accounts, and ChatGPT gives you a live dashboard plus an @finances assistant that can track net worth, compare credit-card rewards against your real spending, review investment allocations, and help you plan around bonuses or irregular income.

Parts of that are genuinely useful, and we will not pretend otherwise. Live account syncing means you never export a file. Net-worth tracking across accounts and investment-allocation review are things a CSV-based tool does not do. If those features matter more to you than anything else in this article, ChatGPT Finances may serve you well.

But the announcement email spends a striking amount of its space on reassurance — "securely connect your accounts," "your data stays secure," "ChatGPT cannot make changes to your accounts." Reassurance is what you offer when the architecture raises the question.

The Architectural Difference

The difference between the two approaches is not a feature. It is where your data physically goes.

Connected-account tools (ChatGPT Finances, Mint before it, Monarch, Copilot) work by linking your financial institutions through an aggregator. The company's privacy policy, security team, and business incentives stand between your financial life and everyone else. Often that works out fine. Who Should Use Which

Use ChatGPT Finances if you want a live, always-current picture across banking and investments, you are already paying for ChatGPT's top tier, and you are comfortable with a connected-account arrangement — millions of people are, and that is a legitimate choice.

Use Unblur if the thing you actually want is to understand your spending — where the money goes, which subscriptions crept in, what your rent and interest really cost you — and you would rather not create a standing pipe from your bank to anyone's cloud to get it.
